The campfire crackled warmly and flung its sparks up into the cool vesper sky, where the first and brightest stars were just beginning to wink into being.
Well, it took me a little while to get back to this one, but I’m glad I did! Great story.

The painting came first. I came across it (I think on pinterest?) and was immediately stricken with an intense need to write a story to go with it.
"... like she were the proper end to some ancient ritual." That she is. Each of us, before the next.
This story's a romp. Researched and passionate. The turns of phrase take things where they want. Loved it.
Funny that the cast makes me think of a rewired Tarzan. Elephants, game hunter, Wendy, and wiry white-haired professor all!
