Well, it took me a little while to get back to this one, but I’m glad I did! Great story.

But I have to ask: which came first, the painting or the story idea? 😁

The painting came first. I came across it (I think on pinterest?) and was immediately stricken with an intense need to write a story to go with it.

"... like she were the proper end to some ancient ritual." That she is. Each of us, before the next.

This story's a romp. Researched and passionate. The turns of phrase take things where they want. Loved it.

Funny that the cast makes me think of a rewired Tarzan. Elephants, game hunter, Wendy, and wiry white-haired professor all!

Oddly, Tarzan wasn’t a major influence for this despite being one of my favorite movies and book series, but I definitely see the resemblance.

No, it’s easy to see Tarzan wasn’t a big influence. What’s worse is I mistook Jane’s name as Wendy. It was late!
